• Using basically the same chassis /cab as that of its suction road sweeper, Melford Engineering Ltd, of Cottenham, Cambridge, has been producing small tippers and side-loaders mainly for the municipal market.
Manufactured in grp, the cab is fully fitted for road use and mounted on the heavy-duty Reliant TW9E 3-wheeler commercial chassis, rated at 16 cwt, with increased rear spring ratings and 6-ply truck tyres. The new specification includes a tougher gearbox with synchromesh on four forward gears and an alternator in place of dynamo electrics.
The open bodies in standard form are rated at a payload of 15 cwt with a volume capacity of 1.5 cu yd. They are availabl with fixed or tipping bodies.
Side-loader bodies are produced in tw types. On one type the top coamint containing two .sliding doors each side, ca be demounted when an open truck i required. The other type has non-removeable top with a "church door tailgate. Special wood filled or flat-bac bodies are also produced. The standar range, however, is produced in steel bodie with strong reinforcing members,
