• At Hinckley, Leics., magistrates' court, George Rex William Woodward (50), of Station Road, Earl Shilton, was charged With 28 offences relating to aiding and abetting Woodwards of Barwell (1968) Ltd, road hauliers, of Barwell, near Hinckley, in causing 11 drivers to use lorries without test certificates and without insurance cover for third party risks.

He pleaded guilty and was fined a total of £166 which he was ordered to pay at the rate of £5 a week. For the defence it was stated that the company was failing at the time of the offences and later went into compulsory liquidation. Woodward told the court that he was a driver with another transport firm and needed his hgv licence to keep his job. His licence was endorsed but he was not disqualified from driving.
