• Workers at the road haulage contracting firm of Thomas Caunce and Co Ltd, Rufford, Lancs, have given their employers a helping hand by taking a holiday. They volunteered this action as the firm began to feel the effects of the strikes in the docks and construction industry.
To avoid some of the 60 employees being laid off, one-third of the labour force volunteered to bring forward holiday plans.
