Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• Commercial aspects of operating on the Continent will be the subject of a "mini" conference organized by the Express Carriers group of the Road Haulage Association on October 23, in advance of the main annual conference sessions which will deal with management information and roads.

The Express Carriers have invited Mr C. A. F. Groenman, of KNVTO, the Dutch haulage association, to talk on rates, conditions of carriage and legal requirements, while a prominent Dutch haulier, Mr J. Spiegelaar, will look at operating problems of international movement.

A representative from Eurostore, Paris, will be talking about international distribution centres. The three speakers will take part in the closing session presided over by Mr J. Murly, a director of Eurofreight Ltd, and chairman of the road transport committee of the Institute of Freight Forwarders.

The main conference, starting on October 24, begins with a discussion on management information between Mr Alan Jebb, Imperial College of Science, University of London, and Mr L. S. Payne, director of technical services and development, National Freight Corporation. The basis of the discussion will be a development of the tachograph as a source of management information.

Mr K. A. Hatcher, an RHA vice-chairman, will speak on value added tax. Mr J. B. Robertson, director, ICI, and Professor T. C. Williams, University of Southampton, will be the joint speakers in a session on the general theme of roads and goods vehicles.

Open session There will be an opportunity in the last session of the conference for delegates to put their questions to the RHA executive board, under the chairmanship of the RHA national chairman, Mr J. P. Wells.

Mr Wells will preside at the main business sessions and the chairman for the Express Carriers mini-conference will be the chairman of the group, Mr H. A. Russett.

At a business luncheon on October 24 at the Grand Hotel, the speaker will be Mr Richard Marsh, chairman of British Railways.

The social programme will include a banquet and ball in the Winter Garden, Eastbourne, on Wednesday October 25.
