Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• A new overnight service to take lorries (with or without trailers) by rail from Cologne, Germany, to Verona, Italy, has been introduced by the German railways.

The necessary German and Italian roadrail permits are readily available and, says the DoE, this will enable operators who have been unable to obtain Italian general quota permits to deliver goods to and collect goods from Italy. The road-rail permits are each valid for one return journey but vehicles must use the "piggy-back" service in each direction.

A leaflet giving particulars of the new service is available from the Northern Traffic Area Office, Low Friar House, 36/42 Low Friar Street, Newcastle upon Tyne NE1 5 XR (tel: Newcastle upon Tyne 610031).
