NEARLY 2,000 workers at the Albion works in Glasgow rejected a strike call by their shop stewards last week. The stewards claimed the management "had made a mockery of negotiating procedures".
The call for an unofficial strike was turned down—by a very narrow majority— at a mass meeting. Instead, the men decided to call in their full-time union officials and go through the normal negotiating channels to seek a settlement of a bonus complaint for machine shop men.
The men also turned down a suggestion that they should hold one-day token strikes each week and impose a complete ban on overtime.
