ACTION by the London Transport Executive in extending its operation of contract carriages outside the originally designated area under powers given to it by the Transport Act, 1947, is receiving close attention from members of the Passenger Vehicle Operators' AssociatiOn in the London and Home Counties area. Section 25 of the Road Traffic Act, 1934, applies to London Transport as well as to other operators.
Members of the P.V.O.A. in the areas immediately affected are concerned at the result of this extension of the field of operation.

THE chairman of Leyland Motors. Ltd Mr. C. B. Nixon. welcomed members of the Institute of Road Trans
port Engineers (north-western centre), when they paid their annual visit to the Leyland works, last week. Mr. Stanley Markland, joint general manager. emphasized that the company would not display anythingat the Commercial Motor Show that could not be put into production within a reasonable time.
A feature of the passenger range would be the scientifically designed heating and ventilating system.
