• UNIT '91, the owner-drivers association founded by haulier Mike Pickering, attracted more than 70 to its launch meeting at the BP Truckstop at Alconbury last week.
The meeting endorsed UNIT '91's aims which include negotiating haulage rates directly with customers and "cutting out the middlemen who take 10% of our rate".
The association has a stand at Commercial Motor Truckfest where it plans to pursue its aim of "forming a large group of hauliers which can tender for jobs".
