Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• The backers of two of the industry's biggest events are heading for a clash over dates.

The Institute of Road Transport Engineers has confirmed that it will hold its 1993 show in the second week of May, which will overlap a Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders' truck show.

The IRTE is determined to hold out against the SMMT, which also organises the Birmingham Motor Show every two years.

"The SMMT may not appreciate how important the IRTE exhibition has become in the transport operating calendar," says IRTE executive secretary Alan Stroud. "There will be more than 230 exhibitors this year at Telford and there will be more in 1992."

However, the SMMT says it has set the show for 11-16 May because the Birmingham National Exhibition Centre was booked on other suitable dates.
