• Lorry drivers travelling between Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland are being delayed by a dispute over computer systems between Customs and clearing agents.
The delays are threatening to put some owner-drivers out of business because the round trip — normally completed in a day — is taking so much longer.
The dispute has arisen because the Republic has introduced a system, Automated Entry Processing, which is incompatible with Northern Ireland's system. As a result, the agents are continuing to submit forms which Customs officers in the Republic must input into the system, delaying trucks for up to three hours.
