• Reeve Burgess is moving manufacturing from its Pilsley and Stonebroom sites near Chesterfield into its stablemate Plaxton's base at Scarborough to cut costs.
Neil Beresford, managing director of Plaxton's manufacturing division, says that Reeve Burgess is trading profitably, but the slump in PCV demand means that it is necessary to rationalise manufacturing capacity. "We have invested heavily in our large and more modern Scarborough plant which is under-utilised at present because of the recession," he says. "The Reeve Burgess transfer has the potential to improve matters, as it brings under one roof the manufacture of Plaxton's full range of increasingly green and clean vehicles."
A sales operation headed by Reeve Burgess managing director David Quainton will stay on at Pilsley at least until the autumn.
