Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• Daimler-Benz has unveiled a range of reduced capacity lowemission vee-six and vee-eight engines with power outputs from 200-280kW (270-381hp).

The 9.57-litre 0M401LA vee-six and the 12.76-litre 0M402LA vee-eight will be used in a new "Low Emission Vehicle" (LEV) range which will be introduced progressively up to the end of 1992.

The vee-six LEV engine will be offered at 200 and 230kW (272 and 313hp) while the bigger vee-eight develops 280kW (381hp). Daimler-Benz says that the LEV engine range will ultimately include 320 and 373kW (430 and 500hp) versions.

Torque outputs from the 200 and 230kW engines are 1,0 4 ONm and 1,3 00Nm (7671bft and 9591bft) respectively; peak torque from the eight-cylinder engine is 1,700Nm (1,2541bft).

Examples of the new LEV engines were shown at the Hanover Fair. They feature higher injection pressure, new combustion chambers, multi-hole injectors and a number of other hnprovements to meet forthcoming noise and emission legislation. The current family of M-B heavy truck engines will also be modified this year to meet the new LEV standards.
