Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• Bass, which has 56 tractive units and 160 trailers, the majority tri-axle, has dispensed with its toe-in gauge that could check only front-wheel alignment, and installed an HPA Uni-Lux optical aligner supplied by HTC (Nottingham).

"Unnecessary tyre wear is something we don't want, so we looked for a more efficient aligner which could tell if the combined tractor and trailer was running out of line," says workshop manager George Daggers.

The Uni-Lux provides a full geometry check on each axle, using a triple beam to measure toe-in, caster, camber and KPI, and correct centring of the steering wheel.

HTC (Nottingham) A mechanic checks the wheel alignment on a Bass tractive unit with an HPA Uni-Lux aligner.
