The semi-trailer design is particularly suited to a tri-axle configuration, where it has a 0,2009,300kg kerb weight, depending on the specification and power supply, and has a 70m3 capacity on maximum-length bodies.
Bodies are made of hightensile steels of Hardox for the floor, and Dornex for the underframe, main beams and side panels.
A forward-sloping ejection wall is positioned at the front of the empty body, ready for top or end loading. When compacting or unloading the refuse a six-stage hydraulic ram,
mounted at the bulkhead and operated from beside the body, forces the wall — and the rubbish — to the rear. Norba claims the system can discharge up to 23 tonnes in under two minutes.
Before emptying, hydraulic rams raise the tailgate and its attached light clusters far enough to clear the external side locks before pivoting upwards to 90° to allow the waste to discharge freely.
The simple hydraulic pack located between the wall and front bulkhead can operate from a PT-0, donkey engine or slave unit. Norba's high-volume body has already impressed a number of refuse disposal companies including ARC and Biffa, who have ordered 17 between them.
