• Foods and timber group Hillsdown Holdings has bought the European bedding interests of Simmons USA for 214.3 million. The company plans to distribute bedding through the existing UK distribution network of its subsidiary, ChristieTyler, which supplies upholstered furniture to Harris Queensway, Marks and Spencer and Debenhams.
a British Car Auctions has sold its 40% stake in First Security Group, the Hampshire manufacturer of vehicle fire detection and seclirity systems. BCA has made 24.5 million on the deal.
• A contract worth around 2170,000 has been won by ROCC Computers to supply fleet management company PHH with two ROCC 2840 multiuser computer systems linking 53 workstations.
• Reliable Vehicles, the Scottish Scania Truck• dealership of the Appleyard Group, made record profits last year. The group's En-' deavour Trucks at Portslade was appointed as one of the new Iveco Ford main dealers. Total contributions from Appleyard's commercial vehicle operations rose from 2333,000 to 2452,000.
• Christian Salvesen has expanded its food business by buying Stowtime of Buxton, Derbyshire, for 21.43 million — 2593,000 in cash with the balance met by the issue of new shares.
