Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

IT MAY be just anti-freeze to you and me but to Tony Mace, one of Volvo's boffins, it is coolant mixture. There is sound technical sense behind the distinction. .

For a variety of reasons, engines with wet cylinder liners are forever blowing bubbles, which cause pitting of the liners. The way to prick them is to use what-I l-mustn't-mention. It must, however, be of the correct technical specification and in the correct proportion, which in a Volvo engine is 40 per cent.

An incorrect solution can be worse than none at all, says Tony, who is launching a campaign to educate drivers and operators in the importance of bubble-bursting.

Meanwhile, let me hear no more loose talk about antifreeze.
