Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

on a bus built to the new MoT standards will qualify for the 25 per cent discount? I have particularly in mind equipment such as ticket-issuing and change-giving machines which I have been told do not qualify.

AAny essential equipment which is per

manently attached to a "standard" bus qualifies for the 25 per cent discount. This applies to ticket-issuing and change-giving machines if they are permanently attached to the bus (except, of course, when removed for overhaul or repair), confirms an MoT spokesman. Ticket machines which are removed by the driver/conductor after each shift or are worn by conductors on crewoperated buses do not qualify.

Another item of equipment on a one-manoperated double-decker about which there may be doubt is a passenger counter on the staircase to indicate to the driver the number of seats available on the top deck. Such equipment is considered "permanent equipment" and thus qualifies for grant.
