Du RING the past Winter, 750 of the 1,000 vans used by T. Wall and Sons, Ltd., for the transport of icecream have been overhauled at the Acton headquarters and at divisional garages at Birmingham, Cardiff,: Croydon, Edinburgh, Manchester and Southampton. :During _the next six months, the vehicles will travel 15m. miles. The fleet covers more than 25m. miles a year.
Over 350 vehicles have received major overhauls, in
1 v i ng cOmplet e mechanical . stripping down and the :repair aod repainting of bodywork. The remaining 400 vehicles Were subjected to minor overhauls, including the refacing of brakes and .the overhauling of steering.
A complete overhaul, including bodywork, occupies a period of three to four weeks.
More than 280 engines were rebuilt to manufacturers standards, and 320 gearboxes were stripped down..
