• The threat of strike action at Sadlers Tankers subsided last week as the company's 40 chemical drivers accepted a oneoff payment instead of a percentage wage rise.
The Transport and General Workers Union says a £200 payment and an extra day's holiday have been accepted, even
though Sadlers' 60 petroleum drivers and other staff have received a 4.5% pay rise.
TGWU Middlesborough organiser Alan Gray says: "It's not what we wanted, but coming from a zero position the lads are quite happy." Gray had threatened a strike ballot if the company had refused to move.
