• Overnight parcels carrier Elan International has made its first new truck purchase since it was formed nine years ago, spending t1m on 50 of Iveco Ford's new 7.5-tonne Cargos.
Elan was bought from DHL International by holding group Allegro in August 1991. Until now it has leased its 300strong fleet, but executive chairman John Bintliff says the company has gone into profit from losing £500,000 a month, and now has resources to buy new trucks.
