Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• I note with interest the comments made by J A Oldroyd (CM 20 –26 August).

Mr Oldroyd's main contention is that the apparent lack of response from bodybuilders is due to cost and cites an additional cost as being additional administration.

There are currently many companies who employ less than ten persons who have gained registration with BSI, and I am quite confident that those companies have not felt the need to increase staff levels as a result of their registration, except perhaps as a result of the increased business they have received.

A properly implemented and maintained quality system to BS5750 will pay for itself by reducing quality costs and increasing business, certainly the major public purchasing bodies are looking to place orders with bodybuilders who do operate a quality system.

The initial response of about 35 companies since the scheme launch in March, is as much as would be expected of any industry and we expect this number to increase substantially as more companies see the advantages of registration or find time to implement QA. J W Bulled BSI, Milton Keynes.
