Model: Leyland Bus Royal Tiger Doyen. Build dates: March 1984 to November 1986.
Defect: Offside extra exit door can be opened when the vehicle is moving. Remedy: Fit an inhibitor that prevents the door being opened above 3 mph. Number of vehicles: 38.
Model: Van Hoot Acron and Akron. Build dates: May 1982 to January 1986. Defects: 1, The power operated extra exit door can be opened accidentally by passengers while the bus is moving 2, the extra exit door cannot be opened by passengers when the security locks are in operation; 3, the extra exit door warning device does not work until the door stars to open.
Remedy: 1, Fit an interlock to stop the extra exit door being opened at speeds above 3 mph; 2, Modify security locks to allow passengers to open the door from the inside during an emergency; 3, Modify warning device to activate as soon as opening device is operated.
Number of vehicles: 21. Model: Hestair Duple Integral 425.
Build dates: January 1986 to November 1986.
Defect: Possible failure of bolts connecting the lower suspension arm to the vehicle frame, causing the suspension assembly to collapse.
Remedy: Replace the bolts and tab washers with rolled studs nuts, and locking wire.
Number of vehicles: 15.
Model: Bedford PJK, NJM, YMP, YMT and YNT.
Identification numbers and build dates: ET100101 to HT101456. August 1983 to October 1986.
Defect: Emergency engine stop control fuse ineffective because of transposed wires. Risk of harness burning out. Remedy: Check fuse flock for correct wiring and check engine stop harness. Number of vehicles: 630.
Model: MCW Metrobus and Metroliner. Build dates: January 1986 to December 1986. Defect: Air hoses to both front and rear brakes can break where they join an incompatible union, so the brakes stop working.
Remedy: Check and replace where necessary with quality assured material. Number of vehicles: 208.
Model: Leyland bus Royal Tiger.
Build dates: June 1983 to December 1986.
Defect: Water in the inner sleeve area of the inner mounting metacone can corrode the rear engine mounting bolt of the TL11 so that it shears.
Remedy: Fit a nylon bush between metacone and mounting bolt to seal against water.
Number of vehicles: 116.
Model: Dennis Specialist Vehicles (all PSV and fire appliances).
Build dates: June 1981 to April 1987. Defect: The angle of taper of the steering draglink ball joint pin is not compatible with the hole in the hole in the steering arm.
Remedy: Replace ball joint assembly.
