Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

THERE IS no change in hours limits for British drivers in the new regulations which make the use of EEC type logbooks mandatory from October 31. The Drivers' Hours (Keeping of Records) Regulations 1976 SI 1447 is available through HMSO or any bookseller price 30p. A departure from the established practice is that from October 31, it will be possible to use record books without duplicates of the daily sheets provided the book contains no more than 15 daily sheets and provided that the book is not used for more than four weeks from the first sheet it contains.

Till now, the DoE has insisted that EEC-type books must make provision for a duplicate sheet no matter how long it is used.

Because the withdrawal of the British book means a departure from long-established practice, the DoE intends the first two months to be treated as a transitional period. During this time, enforcement staff will be bringing the new regulations to the attention of employers and drivers and offering guidance on completing the log sheets.
