A FAILURE for the second time by the majority shareholder in Hecinesford Continental Haulage Ltd to appear at a publie inquiry before the West Midland Licensing Authority, Mr A. A. Crabtree, led to the company's 0-licence being revoked at Birmingham last week.
The case first came before the LA in August when he was also considering a variation application by the company's principal shareholder, Mr Giuseppe Antonio D'Arcangelo, of Tunstall, Stoke on Trent, to add two vehicles and two trailers to an existing licence in his own name which already authorised two vehicles and two trailers.
At that time, Mr D'Arcangelo's secretary, Mrs Jacqueline McCallum, said he was away in Italy on business. Adjourning that hearing Mr Crabtree said it would be unfair to put questions to Mrs McCallum which really need ed to be put to Mr D'Arcangelo and it would be necessary for him to attend the next hearing (CM August 20).
On September 16 Mrs McCallum said she was again representing Mr D'Arcangelo because he was unable to return from Italy until next week as his wife had been taken ill. She had been instructed to withdraw the variation application in Mr. D'Arcangelo's own name.
After Mr Crabtree said he understood that Hednesford Continental Haulage was a company that had now gone into liquidation Mrs McCallum said that was so and Mr Crabtree revoked the licence.
