Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

A NEW LIGHT VAN from Bedford makes a first appearance at the Commercial Motor Show today. Known as the Chevanne, it is a 500kg (approx lOcwt) payload derivative of the Vauxhall Chevette car which will be joining the established HA mod:...ls at the lower end of the Bedford weight range.

The Chevanne shares all the major mechanical components of the Chevette cars. The engine is a low compression version of the familiar Chevette/Viva 1256cc (77cuin) four-cylinder petrol engine which produces 39kw (53bhp) at 5,400 rpm on a compression ratio of 7.3 to 1. The maximum torque of 84Nm (621bft) is delivered at 2,600rpm.

A four-speed all-synchromesh gearbox is specified along with a 184mm (71/4in) diameter clutch. The hypoid final drive has a standard ratio of 4-11 to 1.

The suspension is independent at the front by means of long and short wishbones and coil springs while, at the rear, coil springs controlled by torque tube, two trailing arms and a Panhard rod• are used. Anti-roll bars are standard equipment fore and aft, For a wheelbase of 2.4m (7ft 10in), the Chevanne is claimed to have a turning circle between kerbs of 9.2m (30ft 2in).

Bedford has gone to great pains to protect the integral body/chassis unit from the environment by incorporating a 10-stage anti-rust treatment including a deep dip primer. The body side-members are sprayed inside with aluminised bituminous compound while a sealing compound is applied to the entire underbody and to the underside of the wings before the mechanical components are fitted.

A split circuit servo-assisted hydraulic braking system is used with 238mm (9.4in) discs at the front and 200mm (7.9in) diameter self-adjusting drums at the rear.

The fuel tank capacity of the new Chevanne is 43 litres (9.9gal) and the kerb weight is 850kg (1634cwt),
