Wefford Truck Bodies Ltd.

Hainge Road, Tividale, Warley, West Midlands, B69 2NW.

A HEAVY DUTY triple-dropside truck body with a Muscle hydraulic loader is displayed by Welford, together with an allaluminium curtain-sided canopy trailer and a steel-framed sliding-door van.

Mounted on a Ford D1614 16-ton chassis the truck body is of steel /timber construction with an underframe of pressed and rolled-steel sections. The design of the canopy trailer allows the curtains to be pulled clear of the sides to give unobstructed side loading, the body being mounted on a 28,000kg (27.6-ton) trailer chassis. Having a length of 5.9m (19ft 4in) the sliding-door van is based on a Bedford KGL chassis/cab rated at 12,55 tonnes (12.35 tons). The doors are hung from roller-bearing trollies sliding in a tubular-steel track.

York Trailer Co Ltd.

Yafforth Road, Northallerton, Yorks, BL7 811E. •

SIDEWINDER is the name given by York to a side-loading windup curtain trailer which provides for full-length, full-height loading and a big variation in pallet size. Features include single operation of two-way tensioned bias-cut curtains, a one-piece all aluminium prestressed bonded roof and a full-length one-piece

curtain clamp. Because Sidewinder curtains are wound out of the way when the vehicle is being loaded they cannot be damaged by fork-lift tines. Access is impossible with the curtains tensioned and locked.

Two new demountable systems are also shown by York (on Stand 276) the Airswop and a skip-body system. While the Airswop is air-powered from the vehicle compressor and twin reservoir tanks and the 6.1m (20ft) is built as an integral box, the skip body has twin hydraulic boom rams, the control system of which allows for fast off-loading of empty • skips. The lifting capacity of the latter is 10.16 tonnes (10 tons) and it is suitable for mounting on standard 16-ton chassis.

Shown as a free-standing exhibit, York's new drag reducer is a blister of grp which can be attached to the front bulkhead of traileror rigid-mOunted bodies.
