No Concessions for Old Folk: A request by Sandiacre Parish Council for concessionary fares for old-age pensioners during off-peak hours has been turned down by Trent Motor Traction Co. More Leylands for Eastbourne: Eastbourne Corporation Transport, which earlier this year ordered its first Leyland double-deckers since the immediate post-war period, has ordered another five Titan PD2A.30 chassis at a cost of £2,536 10s. 2d. each, and five bodies from East Lancashire Coachbuilders Ltd. at £3,647 10s. each for delivery in May, 1967.

Taken Over: One of the few remaining private operators in the Highlands. Mr. Fred Newton, of West End Garage. Dingwall. has relinquished his bus and coach services, which in future will be operated by Highland Omnibuses Ltd.

Disappointing Results: Stokesley RDC has been told that if the Stoekton-Ostnotherly service is not used by considerably more people it may not he possible for United Automobile Services, which in July took over the service for a trial period, to continue with it indefinitely.

Petition on Concessions: Southend passenger transport committee is to petition Parliament to make •the necessary legal changes to enable concessionary fares to be introduced there for old-age pensioners. A concessionary scheme approved by the full council in July was ruled illegal by the Minister because the scheme would involve payments to Eastern National from the rate fund.

Venture Maintenance: The Venture Transport Co. Ltd., Consett, Co. Durham, are to build a new paint shop and coachbuilding section for the maintenance of their pay.

Theatregoers Switch to Buses: Walter Alexander and Sons (Midland) Ltd. are to take over work done tor 16 years by British Railways, taking 1.000 passengers from Dundee to Glasgow for theatre performances. BR told the Dundee organizer that shortage of rolling stock made it impossible to give a quotation for this trip.

Appeal to PMT: After meeting a deputation on behalf of old age pensioners in north Staffordshire, the Potteries Motor Traction Co. Ltd. has agreed to look into their request for concessionary fares to be granted to all pensioners. A spokesman for the. company said that the decision would be made in a few days' time. but that it was made clear to the deputation that they could not hold out a great deal of hope. It is understood the request will almost certainly be turned down.
