rHERE is no dearth of ideas in the British bodybuilding industry. This fact is amply demon.ated by the Commercial Motor tow. Originality, in design, coupled th adaptability in materials, is in idence on most of the 62 stands cupied by bodybuilders.
Nearly 200 exhibits are to be seen these stands. There are 177 corn!te vehicles and, in addition, vets' cabs, containers, tipping irs and static fuel dispensers are on w.
Df the complete vehicles, 114 are ilt to carry goods, 52 are passenger tides and 11 are ambulances or : appliances. Many other excelt examples of bodywork are tilable for inspection on chassis nufacturers' stands and in the non st ration park.

rINE of a number of tankers con structed under the revised Petroleum Spirit (Conveyance)Regulations appearing in the Show is seen on this stand. Formed in aluminium, it has a total capacity of 4,000 gal., with a maximum compartment capacity of 800 gal. The tank is mounted on the A.E.C. Mammoth Major chassis by four aluminium-alloy bearers secured to (he frame through brackets fitted with Silentbloc units, Overall dimensions of the vehicle are: Length, 30 ft. and width, 7 ft, 6 in. Unladen weight is 7 tons 14 cwt. I qr.
The 2,000-gal, aluminium spirit tank mounted on an A.E.C. Mercury chassis is divided into four compartments of 800 gal., 500 gal., 400 gal. and 300 gal. respectively.

A NEW hydraulic stretcher gear
which enables a nurse to load patients into the top tiers of a fourberth ambulance with little manual effort, is a feature of one of the two Morris-Commercial ambulances built by this specialist.
Simple in design and claimed to be foolproof in operation, the upper-tier stretcher gear, supported on four pivoted tubular steel arms, is raised or lowered by a lever-actuated pump built into the step-well at the rear. In the lowered position it descends into the same position as the gear for the lower tier. Controls to regulate the speed of operation are easily accessible. Safety devices are incorporated. The top stretchers are collapsible, increasing the seating capacity of this exhibit to 10, if required.
The lower-tier stretcher is of the standard Morris-Commercial low-loading design. This obviates lifting, and enables a stretcher, with patient, to be loaded from outside the vehicle.
A body built specifically for stretcher cases is shown on the other Morris-Commercial chassis on this stand. ARLINGTON Stand 25
Arlington Bodybuilders, Ltd., Ponders End, Enfield, Middy.
OF special interest to furniture manufacturers and removers is the 1,660-cu.-ft. Luton pantechnicon with an unladen weight under 3 tons. The body is made of light alloy and plastics. Mounted on a Bedford chassis, the cab is built integrally with the body. With an interior length of 22 ft. 5 in., the body is framed in alloy extruded sections. A Huntalloy patent cant-rail and reinforced glass-fibre panels are employed, plastics also being used for the roof.
The other two exhibits, incorporating Dennis Stork and Albion Chieftain chassis, also weigh under 3 tons. Both bodies are constructed in light alloy. The body on the Dennis has a capacity of 950 Cu. ft. A special light-alloy cab is fitted to the Albion lorry, the drop sides and tailboard of which are framed in tube with extruded rub rails and name panels.

High field Road, Blackburn. T'WO examples of the new Edge range A of tipping gear are to be seen. The Albion Clydesdale shown is fitted with the model L14F twin-front-ram power-operated hydraulic end-tipping gear. The rams are triple extending and are mounted directly on the chassis frame. A separate oil tank is provided, and the control and cut-out valve is mounted in the cab. The gear, which
weighs 4 cwt., has a load capacity of 14 tons.
The cross-bearer panels of the 7-cu.-yd. all-steel fixed-sided body are notched to allow the runners to pass through to reduce loading height, The taildoor is swung from corner posts extended above the height of the sides to give extra clearance when tipping.
In the case of the model L8F gear fitted to the Atkinson, the triple-extending single ram is combined with the oil tank. This gear weighs 2,i cwt, and can take a load of 8 tons. The steel body has drop sides -and a capacity of 6 Cu. yd.
BEADLE Stand 32

THE design of the two integral chassislcss passenger vehicles seen
here closely follows that of preceding years. Construction is entirely in light alloy. The underframe, into which the running units are fitted, is of cellular construction, deep fabricated members being used. Box-section extrusions are employed for the upper structure.
Special attention to passenger com fort has been paid in the 41-seat coach exhibited. Visibility, ventilation and lighting are notable, and there is adequate luggage accommodation. Heating equipment is provided in the 44-seat bus, which is the other exhibit.
The new Commer TS3 two-stroke oil engine is employed in both models.
BONALLACK Stand 86

40-42 Cannon Street, London, E.C.4. QPECIALLY designed for the National Coal Board, the extruded aluminiumalloy 11-cu.-yd. tipping body on the
Commer 7-ton chassis is strongly gusseted and braced. Panelling is in On, alloy plate with a deep angle top rail. The tailboard, the top bar of which is strongly reinforced, is swung on overhand stumps with reinforced eyes and a tumbler locking rod at the foot. Dekaloy patent metal longitudinal flobring is incorporated..
Aluminium framing and panelling are used in the triple-drop-sided body on a Maudslay Mercury chassis. The cab is of pressed steel. The Bonallack standard pressed-steel cab can be seen on the forward-control Leyland Comet 90, which has a platform constructed in aluminium-alloy sections. Beer will be catheiin the coveredtop drop-sided aluminium body on an Albion chassis.
BOWYER Stand 127

XTRUDED aluminium-alloy sec tions are used in the framing of the van body mounted on a Foden chassis, and bring the unladen weight down to 3 tons. The cab is integral with the body. Boalloy patented overlapping tension sections, each plank bolted at intersections with the cross-bearers, are employed for the flooring. Exterior side panelling is in aluminium-alloy plate. Internal dimensions of the body are: Length, 16 ft. 6 in. and width, 6 ft. 7 in.
The framework used in the cab of an Atkinson chassis is shown by a partially panelled exhibit. It is constructed throughout in extruded alloy sections, secured by rust-proofed high-tensile bolts.
BRITISH LIGHT STEEL Stand 27A British Light Steel Pressings, Ltd., Warple Way, London, W.3.
ASSOCIATES of the Rootes Group, the company are exhibiting at the Commercial Motor Show for the first time. They are showing the all-steel cab which they make for the Kamer Bantam forward-control tractor.
It is of unusual construction, consisting of two major subassemblies—the underframe and body, which are welded together. The roof, which is a one-piece moulding, is fully insulated. Excellent visibility to both the front and rear is a
feature of the design. Ease of entry afforded by wide doors. Bucket se are provided.

W. P. Butterfield, Ltd., Shipley. Yorks. A MILD-STEEL 4,000-gal. petrol
tank constructed in accordance with the new Petroleum Spirit (Conveyance) Regulations is the main exhibit. It has five separate compartments, each with a capacity of 800 gallons. The overall dimensions of the tank, which is mounted on a Crossley chassis, are: Length 23 ft. 9 in., width 7 ft.. depth 5 ft. 3 in The design of the tank is elliptical, and it is electrically welded throughout. Each compartment has Emco open-fill covers. Emco 3-in. emergency valves with remote-control levers are also fitted. Cocks are grouped in a steel locker with double-hinged doors, provided at tne front on the near side. A tubular steel ladder with grab rail, and an aluminium walkway, are fitted on the near side.
The 3,600-gallon mild-steel petrol tank on the Carrimore trailer is of valanced frameless design. Its six compartments each have a capacity of 600 gallons. The prime mover for this outfit is an A.E.C. tractor. A Foden forms the basis of the other 3,600-gallon tanker.

hfiANY detail improvements, includIVI ing flashing light signals and the new statutory rear reflectors, are incorporated in the oil-engined Austin Metropolitan taxicab built by Carbodies. The power unit is the new B.M.C. 2.2-litre engine.
CARMICHAEL Stand 39 Carmichael and Sons (Worcester), Ltd., The Butts, Worcester.
AN aluminium-alloy two-deck cattle container which, it is claimed, saves a ton in weight over a similar container constructed in steel and wood, is one of the main exhibits on this stand. Mounted on a Thornycroft Sturdy Star oil-engined chassis with an aluminium-alloy platform body, it has spring-assisted rear ramps, loading gates. parting gates, and a Luton head.
A dual-purpose fire appliance, based on a Karrier Gamecock chassis, has a 300-gallon water tank and a 45-ft. aluminium-alloy ladder. Covered accommodation for all the equipment is provided in the aluminium-alloy body. A Coventry Climax 500 g.p.m. pump, mounted at the rear, is driven by a Carmichael power take-off. A 350 g.p.rn, portable pump is also carried.
A streamlined pig-carrier body is mounted on a Commer 7-ton underfloor-engined chassis.
COCKER Stand 77
Cocker of Southport, Lid., Meols Cop Road, Southport. PIA VAN body specially designed for pallet loading of cartons is , a feature of this stand. Of composite ,construction with metal-faced-plywood
panelling, it is fitted with divisions and double-side doors for side loading. A spring quadrant balance top taildoor and a special spring-loaded tailboard are used for loading from fork trucks.
There are mobile shops for most trades, and the latest contribution—in the form of a hairdresser's showroom—
is made by Cockers. Mounted on a Dennis Stork chassis, it is equipped with glass-fronted showcases, sales counter and typewriter. A double bunk is provided, together with chemical toilet and wash basin, hot water being supplied by a Calor-gas unit. The floor covering is of heavy rubber. Polished mouldings relieve the pale pink and mauve exterior.

nESIGNED to carry furniture and
general goods, the van body on a Morris-Commercial 1-ton chassis is notable for easy loading and unloading. Wardrobes can be carried between the wheel-boxes and the front half-bulkhead. Softwood slats are fitted in the interior, and the wheel-boxes are edged with special rubber nosing section to prevent damage to articles with polished surfaces.
The modern lines of the standard cab have been followed in the design of the body on a Morris Motors 5-cwt. chassis. Panelling is in aluminium Two full-length, and one threequarter-length, robe rails, with antisway rails at waist height, are fitted to the roof of the traveller's gown van, based on a Morris Motors 10-cwt.

The remaining exhibit, based on the Morris-Commercial 5-ton chassis, is
designed to carry tinned goods. A welded steel rack, to which are attached display boards, is fitted to the perimeter of the roof.
DAFtHAM Stand 122 Darhant Industries (London), Ltd., 13 Victoria Street, London, S.W.I.
AN integral concealed walkway is a feature of the 4,000-gallon mildsteel spirit tank shown on an Atkinson chassis. The walkway has an aluminium-surfaced treadplate. Storage for two 20-ft. lengths of hose of up to 3-in, diameter is provided in the boxbeam mountings, the drawers of which are fitted with locks. The walkway is drained through the side members of the tubular access ladder.
DUPLE Stand 67
Duple Motor Bodies, Ltd., Edgware Road, London, N.W.9. IMPROVED versions of the lightweight Super Vega coach body are to he seen on. Bedford S.B. and Leyland Comet 90 chassis. Chief of the new features are a new design of chromium-plated front grille (the one on the Leyland varying slightly from
that on the Bedford), new front and rear bumpers, bolder exterior mouldings, heavier-gauge exterior panels, winking traffic indicators with self-cancelling switch, and a combined stop, winker, reflector and rear light unit.
Double-hinged Perspex ventilating panels are incorporated in the roof, and fixed panels in this material are provided in the front canopy and rear dome.
Seating for 36 passengers is provided in the Bedford, the Leyland having a capacity of 38.
A front-entrance version of the lightweight Elizabethan coach body is shown on an A.E.0 Reliance chassis. A 43-seater, it has an overall width of 7 ft. 9 in., which is claimed to be suitable for narrow roads.
DURAMIN Stand 31 Duramin Engineering Co., Ltd., Standard Road, London, N.W.I0.
GREAT interest is likely to be aroused by the Simon bulk-flout vehicle, which is on general exhibition for the first time. The result of three years of development, it has a capacity of 850 cu. ft. (approximately 14+ tons).
First exhibited at the Scottish Motor Show last year, the combined lightalloy platform body and cab on the A.E.C. Mercury chassis is seen in modified form. Following broadly the lines of the prototype, the cab has since been re-designed "on economic grounds." Tipper operators carrying varied loads will be interested in the Dodge 8-cu.-yd. tipper, the capacity of which can be increased to 12 cu. yd. by fitting extensions. Edbro H.N.2 heavy-duty tipping gear is employed. An Albion Claymore van and a 5-ton container compete the exhibits.
EAGLE Stand 98 Eagle Engineering Co., Ltd., Eagle Works, Warwick.
ATHREE-STAGE tower on a Thames chassis is one of the exhibits of this concern, who are perhaps better known as trailer manufacturers. Mounted on a steel sub-frame over the rear axle, the tower is 25 ft. high when extended and 13 ft. high in the closed position. A revolving platform is enclosed by a collapsible guard rail 3 ft. high. A vice-bench is fitted at the rear.
Sides sloping from the front to the rear are a feature of the 12-13-cu.-yd. light-alloy tipping body on the Thorny croft. A cab protector is provided. The power-operated underslung tipping gear is also of Eagle manufacture. Overhead side-tipping gear is incorporated in the semi-trailer quarry dumper shown with a Maudslay tractor.
The design of the box body on a 4-5-ton drop-framed semi-trailer includes a special compartment at the front for empty biscuit tins. The capacity of the complete body is 1,000 tins. Sliding doors are provided on the side as well as at the rear. EDWARDS BROS. Stand 47 Edwards Bros. (Tippers), Ltd.,
264 Goldhawk Road, London, W.12. A N A.E.C. Mammoth Major forms 1—t the basis of the 10-cu.-yd. tipper built for the National Coal Board. Designed both for normal duties and for off-the-road work, its all-steel body is capable of carrying up to 15 tons of dirt. This capacity has been achieved largely by incorporating a scowgate end slanted at 30° from the horizontal. Tipping gear capable of overcoming this initial obstacle has been fitted, and the Edbro-B. and E. twin-ram tripleextending equipment provides a tipping angle of 70.
The body on the Dodge chassis is divided into five equal compartments, each having a capacity of a ton, to facilitate unloading at separate points. Tipping bodies are shown also on Austin 5-ton, Comrner 6I-7-ton and Karrier Bantam chassis.
EXPRESS Stand 43 Express Motor and Body Works, Ltd., 150 Goswell Road, London, E.C.I.
AN integrally constructed cab is employed in the Commer 2-3-ton laundry van. Access to the body cart be gained either from the cab or from the outside at the rear. A sliding door built into the partition behind the driver opens on to a special compartment equipped for carrying dry-cleaned garments. A full-depth roller shutter encloses the body at the rear.
Exterior panelling is in aluminiumfaced plywood, 18-g. aluminium being used for the front arid rear domes.
A roller shutter is also fitted at the rear of the van body on a Thorny croft Nippy Star forward-control chassis. The overall dimensions of this vehicle are: Length 21 ft. 4 in., width 7 ft. 5 in., and height 9 ft. 7 in.
The Maudslay Majestic six-wheeler has a double drop-sided body framed in hardwood.
HARRINGTON Stand 45 Thomas Harrington, Ltd., Old Shore ham Road, Hove, 4, Sussex. QPEC1ALLY designed for British L) Overseas Airways Corporation, the new light-alloy chassisless crew car on this stand will accommodate 12 passengers and luggage. It employs Fordson running units, including the Cost-Cutter four-cylindered petrol engine, and has an unladen weight of 2 tons 9 cwt. 3 qr.
The basic design of the crew car can be employed to form a 19-seat bus, an ambulance, or a general-purpose vehicle.
New front and rear styling will be seen on the light-alloy Contender Mark IV chassisless 41-seat coach. Special fittings include tinted Perspex roof quarter lights, tinted lift-up roof panels, and louvres above the top sliding ventilating windows. The tubular parcel racks are hung from the inner roof arch to improve visibility.
The standard light-alloy 37-scat coach body is mounted on an A.E.C. Reliance chassis.

Holmes (Preston), Ltd— Biackpool Road, Preston, Lancs. ONE of the largest tippers at Earls Court is the Leyland Octopus with a Homalloy 12-cu.-yd. light-alloy body. Measuring 18 ft. 3 in. long by 7 ft. 3 in. wide, it has aluminium-alloy double wines at the rear. Pilot hydraulic endtipping gear is fitted.
A radiused roof with sliding doors on each side is incorporated in the 7-cu.yd.
light-alloy refuse-collector tipping body on a Karrier Bantam chassis. Various applications of light-alloy in bodywork are also seen on a Guy (cab and drop-sided lorry), and a Leyland Octopus and Comet 90 (platform lorries).
JENNINGS Rand 66 I. H. Jennings and Son. Lid.„candbach, Cheshire.
TWO mobile shops are among the four Jennings' exhibits. The
Dennis Stork underfloor-engined grocer's shop incorporates special shelving for bread, confectionery and other commodities. A counter faces the customer on entering at the rear.
Butchers will find a well-equipped shop on the Karrier Bantam chassis. In addition to a serving counter, there arc sycamore chopping blocks and stainless-steel meat rails.
A streamlined three-horse box is shown on an Austin 5-tanner, and a cattle container on a Dodge 5-tonner.
KENNINGS Stand 34 Kennings, Ltd.. Leadmill Road, Sheffield, I.
V7ARIETY is the keynote of this V stand. Mounted on a MorrisCommercial J-type chassis is a neat refrigerated milk container, the refrigeration equipment being the Prestcold Prcsmetic AH.33 model. Framed in hardwood, the body has an interior lining of galvanized sheet steel. A 2-in, sandwich of Fibreglass insulates the sides, front, rear, roof and floor.
A 1,000-gallon tank fitted to an Austin 5-tonner has three compartments of 500-gallon, 300-gillon and 200-gallon capacity. An extension to the chassis carries a steel frame capable of taking two 40-50-gallon barrels, and a barrelskid is supplied for unloading.
Accommodation for five sitting cases as well as a stretcher is afforded by the Morris-Commercial LD.1 ambulance.
A mobile refreshment kiosk is based on a Tasker four-wheeled trailer. Chocolates, cigarettes and other such articles are served at the front, and sandwiches, etc., at the rear.
KINGSLAND Stand 44 Kingsland and Sons (Camberwell). Ltd., 246 Bromley Road, London, S.E.6.
ONE of the many large-capacity vehicles under 3 tons unladen at the Show is the Guy Vixen 3-4-ton 1,540-cu.-ft. van with Kingsland body. It has a modified full front. The body is of wooden construction, aluminium section being used for the floor.
There is no aluminium in the 1.540-cu.-ft. body on the Austin 2-3tonner, the frame of which is fitted with Baico extension.

I as well as a longitudinal seat for four, are used in the Bedford Lancastrian Minor 10-12-cwt. ambulance. The back-rest of the longitudinal seat folds to form a platform for a collapsible stretcher, which is stored under the seat when not in use.
Designed on modern saloon lines, the body has double doors at the rear which fold back flush against the sides. Ease of access to the interior is assured by the provision of a full-width low Step.
Large windows are incorporated in the body sides and the rear doors. Ventilation is provided by air intakes at the sides of the radiator shell and in the roof, and sliding windows in both cab doors and along each side of the body.
LOMAS Stand 40 Herbert Lomas, Ltd., Handforth. • Wilmslow, Cheshire.
IMPROVEMENTS in many of the fittings will be seen on the two ambulance bodies on this stand. The B-type body on the Bedford A2 chassis is built to the order of West Sussex St. John Ambulance Brigade, whilst the one on an Austin A125 chassis is of special all-metal construction and is intended for service overseas.
Both have accommodation for either one stretcher and four seated patients or two stretchers, A feature of the Bedford is individual seating along the off side.
MANN EGERTON Stand 121

A REVOLUTIONARY lorry of 1-1 chassisless design which, although less than 3 tons unladen, can carry a payload of 8i tons, is likely to be the centre of attraction on this stand. Developed by the British Aluminium Co., Ltd., and built by Mann Egerton, it employs Dennis running units, The vehicle was fully described in The Commercial Motor on September 10.
The two passenger vehicles exhibited, although widely differing in styling and purpose, have a common feature in the method of construction, which is based on a light steel frame. The Maudslay Sandringham 43-seat lightweight coach .combines modern styling with an' absence of excessive ornamentation.
The Equator 47-seat double-entrance bus body on Leyland Comet 99 chassis is, as its name implies, specially constructed to resist climatic extremes.
MARSHALL Stand 78
Marshall Motor Bodies, Lid., Airport Works, Cambridge. THREE camera units are housed in I the Bedford 7-ton van built specially for the B.B.C.'s outside television broadcast service. Access to the interior is gained by a door at the rear on the near side or two full-height doors immediately behind the cab, which is built integrally with the body. A sliding panel in the roof enables a camera to be operated from the roof which is provided with a rack. A lightalloy ladder provides access to the roof from the interior.
Formica is used to line the interior, • outside panelling being mainly in aluminium sheet. Insulation is by Fibreglass. The order for this vehicle was placed through Marconi's Wireless Telegraph Co., Ltd.
Perspex roof lights are incorporated in the Austin 5-ton van which has been designed to carry shop fittings. The roller shutter which encloses the body at the rear extends into the roof, giving a larger aperture for loading and unloading when raised. Here, again, the cab is integral with the body.
An all-steel body is mounted on an Austin 2-tanner.

EXKIBITED for the first time is the Dormobile Junior, a smaller version of the now well-established Dormobife. A conversion of the Morris 5-cwt. van, it combines the same functions as its larger counterpart, and can be used as an estate car, a sleeper or a van.
Up to 10 persons can be carried in the Bedford 10-I2-cwt. Dormobile which is also shown. The Dormobile ambulance, based on a Thames 10-cwt. chassis, provides accommodation for either five seated patients or for two stretchers and an attendant.
The two examples of the Utilabus, mounted on Bedford 10-12-cwt. and Morris-Commercial 10-12-cwt. chassis, each have seats for 12 passengers.

A LIGHTWEIGHT version of the
Leyland-M.C.W. Olympic chassisless bus is one of the four exhibits on the combined stands of these manufacturers. Known as the Olympian, it is a 44-seater and employs Leyland Tiger Cub running units, The model shown will be operated by the Western Welsh Omnibus Co., Ltd.
The other single-decker, with an A.E,C. Reliance chassis, is a Fanfare 37 seat coach for the North Western Road Car Co., Ltd. Of mainly steel construction, it has exterior panelling of 18-g. aluminium. A hinged door at the front opens inwards.
Seating for 64 passengers-35 in the upper saloon and 29 in the lower—is provided in the Leyland Orion lightweight double-deck bus for Edinburgh Corporation, whose possible use of 64seaters was foreshadowed in The Commercial Motor on September 3. A Leyland PD. 2/20 chassis also forms the basis of the Orion 60-seater.
MULLINERS Stand III Mulliners, Ltd., Bordesley Green Road, Birmingham, 8.
OF the five exhibits on this stand, the two buses built for service overseas are likely to prove the chief attraction. Destined to join the fleet run by the Cape Coast Municipal Bus Service on the Gold Coast, the Albion 42-seater is of all-metal construction with two entrances on the near side in addition to an emergency exit behind the driver on the off side, Double seats are provided along the near side, whilst the off side has seats for three along its full length. All seats face forward. The Austin 31seater for Aden follows •a generally .similar pattern.
The three goods vehicles shown are all based on Standard chassis, There are an 80-cu.-ft. service van, a pick-up utility and a delivery van. The body, in each case, is of steel construction.

NORMAND Stand 37 Normand, Ltd., Cumberland Avenue, Park Royal, London, N.W.10. rABLE-TESTING is the duty for which a Karrier van, with passenger chassis, has been built for the General Post Office. Framed in hardwood with exterior panelling in aluminium, the body is lined with plywood and insulated with Fibreglass. The cab is an integral part of the structure. Workbenches, cupboards and a paraffin heater are fitted inside. A folding step at the rear fits flush with the floor when not in use.
A tailboard and Normand sliding shutter enclose the Thornycroft Nippy Star van at the rear. Exterior panelling is in 18 g. aluminium.
Van bodies are seen also on Albion 5-ton and Guy Wolf 7-3-ton chassis. That on the Albion has doors on each side as well as at the rear.
NORTHERN COUNTIES Stand 118 Northern Counties Motor and Engineering Co., Ltd., Wigan Lane, Wigan, Lancs.
THERE is accommodation for 14 I seated and 26 standing passengers in the Atkinson lightweight crush-load single-deck bus built for Lancashire United Transport, Ltd. A development of the crush-loader first shown at Earls Court in 1952, it has a central entrance.
The Daintier 65-seat lightweight double-decker for Walsall Transport Department has an unladen weight of 6 tons 17 cwt. Steel framing is used in the construction of the lower deck, and aluminium alloy for the upper deck. Gandy matting, in place of the usual wearing slats, covers the platform.
Designed specifically for limited-stop service, a Guy Arab 57-seat doubledecker has also been built for the L.U.T. The rear platform is enclosed by electrically operated doors. Both of the vehicles for the L.U.T. incorporate the bodybuilder's patented induction ventilation system.
PARK ROYAL Stand 104 Park Royal Vehicles, Ltd:, Abbey Road, London, N.W JO.
THE Royalist is this exhibitor's latest offering to the coach operator. Shown on a Maudslay Reliance in Birch Bros.' cream and green livery, it

has a simple front-end treatment with the operator's name and destination indicators flanking the central motif below waist level. Of all-metal construction, it carries 41 passengers. A flush-fitting sliding door is provided.
Another of Walsall's double-deckers is also shown on this stand. Based on an A.E.C. Regent lightweight chassis, it is distinguished by its "new look" frontal treatment. The metal-framed design employs load-carrying side frame members which transfer the bulk of the load to the front and rear bulkheads and thence to the main mounting points on the chassis. Seating is provided for 61 passengers.
Another single-decker, a 32-ft.-9-inlong 57-seat bus with a Guy Arab -chassis, has been designed specifically for service in Lagos, Nigeria. It has entrances at both the front and rear.
PILOT Stand 123 Pilot Works, Ltd., Manchester Road, Bolton, Lancs.
F OUR of the five tipping bodies I shown on this stand are built in light alloy. Of particular interest is the A.E.C. Mammoth Major 10-cu.-yd. tipper, the Pilot Model U6 twin-ram hydraulic end-tipping gear of which is designed to give a 55° angle of tip. An even larger capacity body-141 cu. yd. —is fitted to a Peden.
The latest Leyland Comet 90 forwardcontrol model has a detachable-sided 6-cu.-yd. end-tipping body. Tipping gear is the Pilot Model U2. Another new vehicle on this stand is the Guy Goliath 12-ft.-1-in.-wheelbase model. Here, again, U2 tipping equipment is
employed. The Pilot body has a capacity of 9 cu. yd.
A 5i-cu.-yd. wooden body, with Pilot U3 tipping gear, is shown on a Seddon.
PLAXTONS Stand 29.

NEW rear styling, incorporating double-curvature corner and back glazing, is a feature of the three Venturer Mark III coach bodies. Other innovations on view for the first time are bigger doors to the luggage locker, redesigned luxury seats. with soft neck rolls, new lifeguards, and Weathershields' Perspex lift-up roof .ventilating panels.
Thirty staggered seats are provided in the composite coach with a Dennis underfloor-engined chassis. The bodies on Comrner Avenger T.S.3 (41 seats) and Crossley Reliance (39 seats) chassis have a new type of underframe formed of specially designed aluminium-alloy hollow-section bearers, T and channel sections. Pillars are made from light rolled-steel sections with steel inserts.
.REALL Stand 125 Real! (Coachbuilders), Ltd., Popes Lane, London, W.5.
SPECIALLY designed to carry meat, two lift-up containers on Dodge 5ton and Fordson 3-ton chassis are constructed of hardwood strengthened with forged-steel brackets. The exterior • is panelled in 18 g. aluminium, whilst the interior is lined with special flutedsection aluminium.
Two full-length doors are mounted on outrigger brackets at the rear. Lifting shackles are fitted to the strengthened underframe. The platform also is framed in hardwood, the floor being con structed of boards screwed to the cross-bearers.
An all-steel body is shown on a B.T.C. four-wheeled trailer.
REYNOLDS Stand 24 W. I. Reynolds (Motors), Ltd., New Road, Dagenham, Essex,
1--1 A THAMES six-wheeler forms the
basis of the Reynolds' oilfields bodywork, which is equipped for pole erection. Of all-steel heavy-duty construction with a hardwood floor, the body has a half tail pipe fitted to the rear of the platform. Equipment includes ginpoles, complete with threeposition mainstay chains, check turnbuckles and snatch blocks, and extended A-frame with fixed head pulley for erecting poles, A power-driven winch is mounted directly on the chassis, and is driven by a power take-oil fitted to the gearbox.
• Between the back of the cab and the front of the body, an independent headache" rack is provided.
The winch and•drive assembly has a direct pull of 9. tons. A direct lift of 41 tons is claimed for the A-frame and ginpole assembly.
ROBSON Stand 109 W. and T. Robson, Ltd., 60 F,crrringdon Road, London, E.C.1.
TWO vans, based on Albion FT37CL i and Commer Q2 chassis, are shown, Both have exterior panelling in aluminium-faced plywood, and arch pieces over the rear wheels boxed-up square in the interior. A full-depth sliding door is provided in the partition separating the body from the cab in each case.
Double doors fitted in the near side, as well as at the rear, distinguish the Albion van, which is 21 ft. 6 in. long, 7 ft. 5 in. wide and 9 ft. 10 in. high. The Commer van is slightly larger at 22 ft. 7 in long, 7 ft. 3 in. wide and 10 ft. 3 in. high.
ROE Mind 105
Charles H. Roe, Ltd., Cro,ssgates, Leeds. A NOTHER crush-load single-decker is to be seen on this stand, Based on an A.E.C. Reliance chassis, it is of metal-framed construction and has a
carrying capacity of 58 passengers-34 seated and 24 standing. The standing compartment is formed by two fulldepth partitions directly opposite the central entrance, Fibreglass reinforced plastic is employed in the A.E.C. Regent Mark III lightweight 58-seat double-decker. The rear corner panels, rear wings and used-ticket box are made of this material. The framing of the lower saloon is of teak, and that of the upper saloon, aluminium alloy. Body weight is 2 tons 141 cwt.
Also shown are the Dalesman Mark If 41-seat composite coach body on A.E.C. Reliance chassis and a 56-seat composite double-decker on Guy chassis.
SCAMMELL AND NEPHEW Stand 113 G. Scammell and Nephew, Ltd., High Road, London, N.12.
A CONTENDER for the title of "the largest an at the Show" Will be the Luton pantechnicon, based on
an Albion Chieftain, built in light-alloy by Scammell and Nephew. It has a capacity of 1,800 Cu. ft. Felt-covered slats in the interior protect furniture from damage. The cab is built integrally with the body.
The special mineral-water body on a Karrier Bantam chassis is framed in hardwood. Advertising display area is provided by a box fitted between the second and third cross-bearers at the front on the near side.
SPARSHATTS Stand 76 J. H. Sparshatt and Sons, Ltd.,
London Road, Hilsea, Portsmouth. A NOTHER large-capacity vehicle rt under 3 tons unladen is seen on this stand. Mounted on a Dennis Stork chassis, the body is of composite construction and has a capacity of 1,200 Cu. ft. The sides and front are panelled in aluminium-faced plywood. A drop well at the rear is enclosed by a ramptype tailboard, panelled half-doors being fitted above. The cab is built integrally with the body.
The 1,450-cu.-ft Luton body on the Austin forward-control chassis is generally of similar construction, but in this design the floor level is interrupted by square-topped wheelboxes.
The well-known Sparshatt sliding-tilt van body is illustrated on a Dodge 106 P6 chassis. The rear half of the roof of this vehicle slides forward on special tracks when top loading is required in addition to normal rear loading.
SPENBOROUGH Stand 30
Spenboro ugh Engineering Co., Ltd., Union Road, Heclanondwike, Yorks. A WIDE range of Spenborough I–I tipping equipment, in addition to that mounted on the five vehicles, is available for inspection. Fitted to the Dennis Pax forward-control chassis is a 6-cu.-yd. end-tipping body with the Model EP.46 power-operated single telescopic hydraulic tipping gear.
Model EP.81 twin-telescopic-ram gear with a two-stage lift of 8 ft. 4 in. is provided on the Commer 7-tonner. L15 The tipping gear is mounted on a robust bridge assembly immediately behind the cab. The Dodge 105 P6 chassis carries the Model EP 48 gear, which has a twostage lift of 7 ft. 10 in. and a capacity of 8 tons. Body capacity is 6 cu. yd.
Twin telescopic rams designed to give a stabilizing action are incorporated in the Model UPT.91 gear on the Thames 5-tonner with a 4-cu.-yd. end-tipping body. The Morris-Commercial NVS chassis is provided with three-way tipping equipment and a 4-cu.-yd. body.
SPURLING Stand 101
Spterling Motor •Bodies, Ltd.. Edgware Road, The Hyde, London, N.W.9. DASSENGER operators will be 1 interested in the 14-seat bus based on a Bedford 25-cwt. chassis. With an all-metal frame, exterior panelling is mainly in aluminium. A sliding door is provided at the front and an emergency exit on the off side. There is luggage capacity of approximately 25 Cu. ft. at the rear.
A mobile shop is shown on a Bedford 4-ton chassis. The design of this body should prove particularly suitable for self-service, as it incorporates two jackknife side doors, one at the front and the other at the rear. Interior dimensions are: Length behind driver, 18 ft. 6 in; width, 7 ft.; height (unladen), 7 ft. 9 in.
A Scammell drop-frame trailer provides -the basis of a body for processed meat. It is of aluminium-alloy construction throughout. There are double doors at the centre of each side, as well as at the rear. These lead into three separate compartments formed by open framework partitions.
STEEL BARREL Stand 120

ANOTHER example of a spirit tank constructed to the new maximum capacity of 4,000 gallons is shown on an A.E.C. Mammoth Major chassis. Of elliptical design, the tank S, divided t.1 6
into five equal compartments. Slatted racks on each side of the tank carry hose. A light steel tubular ladder gives access to a platform running alongside the top of the tank.
The 2,400-gallon elliptical tank on a Carrimore semi-trailer is divided into four 600-gallon compartments. A Dennis Centaur tractor hauls the unit.
The dangers of breakdown caused by fracture of the members by which the tank is attached to the chassis or frame are claimed to be substantially obviated by the Steel Barrel patent tank mounting, a model of which is on view.
STRACHANS Stand 28

Wales Farm Road, London, W.3. 'TWO examples of the recently intro" duced Everest coach body are shown on A.E.C. Reliance and Maudslay chassis. The Maudslay 4I-seater is of lightweight aluminium-alloy construction and has an unladen weight of 5 tons 13 cwt. Sliding windows are provided along each side of the body. Two tinted Perspex opening panels are incorporated in the roof. Perspex is also used for the front camber and back quarter lights.
Claytonrite glazing is a feature of the 41-scat bodywork on the A.E.C. chassis. The heating and ventilation systems are both of Clayton Dewandre manufacture. Luggage accommodation is provided at the rear of both bodies, as well as on parcel racks in the interior.
TELEHO1ST Stand 75

ANEW feature which is likely to prove of particular interest to overseas operators is a lever-type gear, with
oil pressure return, which has a tipping angle of 70*. It is shown fitted to a Thornycroft Big Ben 6 x 4 chassis on which is mounted doublesteel-floor bodywork.
Three-way tipping gear and steel bodywork are seen on a Morris-Commercial NVS 11-5 chassis. A Dodge 7tonner has a fixed-sided steel body and Telehoist S.L.10 tipping equipment, All the bodywork shown was manufactured at the compan y's Cheltenham works.
THOMPSON Stand 103

THIS well-known manufacturer is
exhibiting tankers designed to carry such varied liquids as beer and petrol. The cylindrical stainless-steel tank on the Leyland Octopus chassis has a capacity of s82 barrels (2,952 gallons) of beer in a single compartment, Electrically welded throughout, the tank is highly polished internally. A new design of manhole lid, with an improved method of sealing against pressure, is incorporated, Two of the four bearers by which the tank is attached to the chassis are flexible, and are arranged so that they absorb the maximum chassis deflection.
An open-fill lid, together with the manufacturer's own closed filling connection, dip and footvalve, are features of the 4.000-gallon elliptical spirit tanker constructed to conform with the latest regulations covering the conveyance of petrol by road. An A.E.C. Mammoth Major chassis is employed.
The Tamar static dispenser and the Trent aircraft fueller are also on show.

THE Pyrene airfield crash tender, based on a Thornycroft Nubian 4 x 4 chassis, offers striking contrast to the other two exhibits on this stand. Of all-metal construction, the body has a combined cab and crew compartment, access to which is gained by folding jack-knife doors on each side. Polished aluminium mouldings enhance the exterior appearance.
