THEannouncement today. of the Standard 6-cwt. range of light commercial vehicles adds yet another car-to-van adaptation to the list of vehicles which . have already proved popular with tradesmen, farmers and large transport undertakings alike. The Standard 6-cwt. is available as either a van or A pick-up truck and is derived from the Standard 10 private car, Allsteel integral construction, independent front suspension and a four-cylindered overhead-valve petrol engine are features of the new models.
The 948 c.c. engine develops 33 b.h.p. at 4.500 r.p.m. and has a Solex down. draught carburetter which carries an air cleaner and silencer. It is flexibly mounted in the vehicle as a unit with the four-speed synchromesh gearbox. Hydraulic operation is provided for the 61-in.-diameter single-dry-plate clutch, and the gear lever is mounted on top G6
of the gearbox, giving a central lever position.
The gearbox gives overall gear ratios of 19.45, 11.2, 6.62 and 4.55 to 1, reverse ratio being the same as low gear. It has helical gears with synchromesh engagement of second, third and top ratios. An extension to the rear of the box provides an outrigged bearing for the propeller shaft and reduces its length. Hardy Spicer needle-roller joints are employed.
The rear axle has a 4.55 to 1 hypoidbevel final, drive. Suspension is by semi-elliptic springs and double-acting dampers at the rear, with coil springs and wishbones at the front. Girling hydraulic braking acts on all wheels, with two-leading-shoe units at the front wheels. The pull-up hand-brake lever has a cable linkage to the rear axle.

The cab instruments are groups a cowled.housing on the steering col and include a speedometer and mil recorder, fuel gauge, and ignition oil-pressure warning lights. Provisi. made for fitting a Smith's heater demister unit, the air intake bein the scuttle, below the windscreen.
The wheelbase is 7 ft. and the En length is 12 ft. 11 in. The van payload capacity of 90 cu. ft., exch the space beside the driver, and the loading height of both vehicles is 8 in.
