Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

An unexpected turn developed in a case at Dundee, last Friday, before Mr. Henry Riches, Northern Scotland Licensing Authority. A witness who was stated to be selling a carrier's business to the applicant for the licence, stated in evidence that, although he had not lately kept records, he believed his drawings would be from £4 to £6 per week.

Giving evidence, the applicant stated that what he had now heard was " slightly different." From what had been told him before, he understood that the business was bringing in £8 or £9 a week. He did not see how it was going to be a paying proposition.

The application was rejected.
