Arrangements and Entries to Date.
Owners who intend to allow their vehicles or tractors to take part in the second parade in connection with the Commercial Motor Users' Association prize scheme for good driving, which parade will be held—probably On the Thames Embankment, as in December last—on Saturday of next week, the 3rd October, will do well to remember that their entries should be sent to the secretary, Mr. W. Rees Jeffreys, at 1, Albemarle Street, W., not later than Nlonday next.
This second London parade is in the nature of a competition, but not, as appears to be thought by some, in respect of expert driving at the time of the meet. The awards depend upon the records which the machines and men have to their credit, and upon the answers which they are able to give to the judges' committee in the course Of a viva-yore examination. Such men as have been entered in gomitime will be able to get through this part of the proceedings on Saturday next, the 26th instant, as the judges' committee has arranged to sit at t, Albemarle Street, from 3 p.m. to about 7.30 p.m. Other and later entries will be in no way prejudiced, as it has been also arranged that the judges' committee will meet on at least two evenings next week.
Close upon 20 entries had been received up to yesterday (Wednesda)), from owners of Albion, Eaten, Foster, Lac-re, Nlaudskty, NI ilnes-Daimler, Simms, Thornycroft and Yorkshire machines. Some of these have travelled more than 443,000 miles each, and such well-known owners as Allen and Hanburys, Limited, the South Metropolitan Gas Company, Messrs. W. J. Lobjoit and Son, the Westminster City Council, and the General Post Office (Stores Department) appear in the list. It is, of course, a matter of no small sacrifice, for an owner to allow even one of his vans, lorries, or tractors to be taken out of service on so busy a day as a Saturday, but we think that both the movement as a whole and the interests of the drivers deserve consideration. The competition is open to any owner within a 20-mile radius of Charing Cross.
We might recall that there will be a first prize of five prizes of 4:2 each, and ten prizes of Li each, whilst we hope that, following the precedent of last year, each driver who parades without succss will be given an allowance of at least 25. 6d. Probably, in future years, the example of Glasgow may deserve consideration, for the Commercial Vehicle Committee of the Scottish Automobile Club has, as announced by us, decided to give preference to Monday.
