From Our Special Correspondent.

'iacenza, a quiet and sleepy town in tral Iutly, has been awakened by the h of motors. Wednesday and Thurs. of last week saw the official weighand examination of the machines, he military barracks, and the secre„7 of the organising committee has ununicated to me the list of starters, ich I have set down in tabular form. )n Friday last, the iSth instant, the d trials began, at six o'clock in the ating. The first round, a length of .rilornetres, which had to be covered 1‘.e over, being Piacenza—Pontenure .7.orten-etggii:re Caarto—Piacenza. !re were few mishaps, although the fellingon one road of vehicles with -1 widely-divergent speed capacities ved troublesome at times. No. 5 had etire with a damaged bearing; No. :ook to hour, and 17 minutes over double round; No. 21, with a le-cvlituler petrol engine, took 6 rs 17 minutes; and Nn. 22, a Gagan lorry with trailer, took 8 hours ninutes. The steam lorries, each with a trailer, and the Sauncierson tractor, entered by Messrs. F. Jahn and Company, only did one round, and averaged some six miles an hour. Probably the _best performance was that of the Berna five-ton lorry.

On Saturday last, the Toth instant, the run was a stiffer one, being. Piacenza — Bobbio— Penice — VartiVoghera—Piacenza for the motorbuses and light vans, and Piacenza —Bobbio

-Penice and back for the heavy lorries and steamers. The former circuit was t65 kilometres in length, and the latter I 18 kilometres in length, and both inchided a hill 13 kilometres long with an average gradient of about 12 per cent. The Gaggenau lorry and trailer broke down on the hill near the Penice.

The King visited Piacenza on Sunday, and to.lk a great interest in the various machines, which were paraded before him. Needless to say, the trials are being closely followed by the Italian War Office; in -fact, everything is in the hands of military officers.
