Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• British Customs have stopped sealing tanks filled with red diesel on foreignbound trucks after winning new rights to prosecute foreign drivers who cheat British fuel taxes.

Customs officials say legal changes mean they can now take more action against foreign drivers who run their trucks on red fuel in the UK. But they fear that other EU countries could interpret its practice of sealing UK drivers' tanks as encouragement for them to drive on red diesel elsewhere in Europe.

"We wouldn't want to encourage the use of rebated fuel in other countries," says Customs. It will continue to seal supplementary tanks filled with dutypaid diesel but warns drivers that there is Still no guarantee that other countries will allow

them to run with the tanks full.

Customs says many drivers are still confused by the tanks issue. For help contact A4 Oils Policy group, 3rd Floor, Ralli Quays West, 3 Stanley Street, Salford M60 9I,A.
