THE FIRST vehicle of a contract for the Westminster Plant Division of FL Costain has been delivered by Welford Truck Bodies, of Warley, in the West Midlands.
The steel body is designed to carry 10 tonnes (9.8 tons) of concrete and the side tipping arrangement with "piered up" hinge points allows discharge into a concrete train used for road surfacing. A Welford single-ram double-acting tipping gear is incorporated and the operational cycle from lift off to discharge and return is said to be 22 seconds.
The chassis re-inforcing subframe and body are constructed from pressed and rolled steel channel and hollOw tube with body panelling in 6mm (1/4in) high-tensile steel 508 quality.
