TI 1E RI IDTC has made significant advances in three main areas over the past year, according to the Council's Chairman, Victor Ross. Speaking at the RHDTC's Annual General Meeting in June, Victor said: "In its role as the developer of occupational standards for the industry which lead to awards of N/SVQs the Council has launched standards relating to N/SVQ levels 1 and 2, and is soon to launch standards for N/SVQs levels 3 and 4. Plans for an N/SVQ level 5 are also well underway.

"The Council has also taken a prominent role in the development work on Euroqualification," he added.

"The Euroqualification scheme, which is intended principally for the unemployed, helps to prepare trainees for work within trans-national businesses and for personal vocational mobility within the European Union. The first implementation phase of this scheme is now complete; with further piloting being envisaged during 1994/95.

He continued: "And, as an Industry Training Organisation, the Council has rapidly established itself as an important information source for employers and employees in our industry, receiving many enquiries from industry organisations, training establishments, government departments and the general public."

Commenting on these advances, Victor said; "I believe the Council has come a long way in a comparatively short time. It has met its initial objectives and is moving on to tackle other tasks, such as a detailed manpower, training and skills survey of the industry.

"There is a well perceived role and future ahead for the Council. We look to industry not just to support the Council but also to take full advantage of the support and services which the Council provides."
