Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• Italian authorities are cracking down on British reefer operators who fail to show the necessary documentation to drive through Italy on Sundays.

Last week a driver working for Southampton-based Davies International Transport was fined 1250 for hauling a load of grapes on a Sunday.

DIT managing director John Davies says his firm has been running goods through Italy for six years and until now drivers were generally left alone outside the summer season.

One Dutch and two Belgian reefer drivers were stopped for not carrying the right documents or displaying the 500mmhigh letter A on their trucks.

Police checks are also on the increase in Italy. Davies warns: "It's not unusual for a truck to be stopped four times a week on a European run."
