Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

New year: new regs

• Regulations coming into force from New Year's Day allowing increased weights on three-axle semi-trailers fitted with air or other compressible fluid system apply only where spacing between axles is at least 1.3 metres. Then the weights can be increased from 7,500kg to 8,000kg.

Operators must obtain a new ministry plate and plating certificate showing the new permitted weights.

Apply now on form VT GIO and send with 210.50 fee to the Goods Vehicle Centre, Welcombe House, 91/92 The Strand, Swansea SA1 2DH. If your semi-trailer is due for an annual test before the end of 1988, the VT G10 form and fee must be sent with the annual fee application.

For those wishing to operate from next year at the new weights, the form should state either:

a, they wish to have a new ma plate and plating certificate issued because the design axle weights are equal to or higher than the new maximum permitted weights (the design weights referred to will be shown in column three of the existing ministry plate); or

b, give notification of any alterations they have made to the semi-trailer to allow it to operate at the higher weights.
