Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• The Institute of the Motor Industry and the British importer of Audi Volkswagen have joined forces to set new standards for mechanics working in the importer's 350-strong dealer network.

Mechanics completing a combination of courses run by Audi Volkswagen will now have their qualifications endorsed by the Institute, which will not only set new, more demanding standards for the industry as a whole to match, but also give those successful mechanics the benefits of IMI membership.

"The joint certification with the IMI raises the whole level of recognition of our courses," explains Stewart Miller, train ing manager for the importer. "It means that not only will success in our training schemes be acknowledged within our dealer network, but also across the motor industry."

Joint certification with the [Ml is awarded when a trainee mechanic has passed the examinations at the end of each course. Mechanics, however, will be eligible only for Associate membership of the IMI after they have completed all the courses covering a specific area of expertise.

Volkswagen is honoured to be chosen for the joint certification scheme with the IMI," says Stewart Miller. "It is also a compliment to our trainers."
