Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• The Washmaster vehicle washer from Smith Bros & Webb is a second generation development of its predecessor — the Strong washer — and the first one has been bought by BRS Derby and is now in operation.

The washer retains the traditional three-brush configuration but contains new features developed during a two-year research programme. It has an extending base to improve operating stability under all work loads, and a chainoperated roof brush for more effective control and longer life. The brushes operate on a "wave" profile.

The maintenance acccessibility, too, has been improved. A visual traffic light control has been developed to improve driver awareness.

BRS showed off its acquisition at an open day, when customers — and Workshop — were able to see the machine washing most sizes of vehicles after being quickly reprogrammed. It is a fully automatic gantry machine operating through a forward and return pass action. The wash cycle is operated by a push button.

BRS is charging customers 26 to wash a tractive unit and trailer, and 24 for a rigid — but it is there principally to enhance the company's image through superior washing. The Strong unit was on the market in the UK and overseas for 15 years. And the price of the new model is no higher.
