Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• Yelloways has lost its contract to operate services between Halifax and Rochdale on behalf of the West Yorkshire Passenger Transport Executive because of continuing complaints from passengers.

The deal was terminated after a "substantial breach of contract" on services 567 and 568 on 10-11 November when neither service was operated for several hours.

The PTE says Yelloways failed to notify it of the breach nor did it take any steps to prevent passengers being left without a service.

The contract was due to run until February 1989 but was officially terminated from 20 November. The services have been taken over by Yorkshire Rider on an emergency basis.

The PTE says: "We have received complaints on a variety of subjects involving Yelloways and the PTE has met with the company on numerous occasions in an attempt to resolve these problems.

"What must be made clear is that we are not going to tolerate any bus operator failing to fulfil contractual obligations. Services such as these are vital to the small communities along the route."

Yelloways will continue to operate service 556 from Halifax to Manchester under the strict monitoring by the PTE.
