Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• Passenger attitudes to bus deregulation have been surveyed by the Governmentfunded Transport and Road Research Laboratory.

The postal survey of passengers in non-metropolitan counties found a mixed reaction from passengers on the effect of deregulation. Of the 400 responses 41% said they thought services were "good or very good", while only 17% claimed that services were "bad or very bad".

Some 39% of respondents thought services had improved since deregulation in 1986, whereas 29% claimed they had deteriorated. Around one eighth of replies said their use of the services had dropped.

The survey highlights the main points raised as: An improvement in the frequency of weekday services.

A deterioration in the frequency of evening and Sunday services.
