ROAD freight transpor should be respected as pro viding the lifeline of the no tion, and not be subjected t petty and overburdenin regulations.

This was the message tha Bryan Mellor, chairman of th Avon and Wessex division c the Freight Transpoi Association, gave to 300 FT, members at a meeting la: week.

Mr Mellor said road freigl transport was like a donkey if it was overburdened it cod not do its job properly. A example of this on a nation level was the timescale la down by the Department Transport for the introductic of the tachograph.

Mr Mellor said this two-ye period was so short and u realistic it could mean sot operators "coming into co flict with the law" through fault of their own.
