IN ' How to give the fleet its riew lease of life?' (CM, November 3), the correspondent refers to the comparisons between leasing and rental and defines rental as embracing spot hire covering periods up to three years and being limited to whatever the rental company has on its fleet. This is contrasted with the flexibility of a leasing arrangement.
My company and the other leading truck rental and contract hire specialists operate contract hire arrangements over a variety of periods, guided by experience of the type of vehicle specified for the operation and the demands to be made upon it. Nor is there any limitation on the specification related to "fleet availability." The user gets the specification tailored to his requirements.
The article obviously serves a useful purpose in defining the various routes available to an operator considering vehicle replacement in these inflationary times. It also redeems itself by highlighting the maintenance and administrative advantages of contract hire in later paragraphs. It is a pity, therefore, that it starts with such a positive and misleading definition.
