SHELLIWAY Transport L Warrington, will cease tradi from December 1 with drivers and four oth employees including manai ment and fitters being ma redundant.

This was confirmed la week by Alec McDac managing director of Ma Transport Ltd, Tingley, ne Wakefield, associated cor pany of Shelliway.

Mr McDade said operatio would be centralised at Tin ley. He said the decision close the Warrington oper tion from December 1 w, finalised last week and Shel way Transport would cea: trading. The purpose of ti closure was "to tighten oi belts."

"The reason why we ar closing the Warrington open tion is because of the attitud of the employees there an because the drivers' recer wage increase has made th operation unprofitable.

Mr McDade continue( "There are no plans to emplo more drivers at Tingley but w will retain all our vehicles fc the present and look at the fu picture again in the new yea when the Road Haulag "Before the recent strike a Warrington we felt we had reasonably good bunch of me there but they took this lin when they could not get who they wanted. The compan gave them five or six week after the strike ended to see the Warrington operatioi could work.

"But at the end of the da; when we were incurring sub stantial losses it came to al point where enough wa enough."

The drivers at Warringtoi were on strike for five week over a pay claim. The strikl ended when an agreement wa reached at an emergenc! meeting which took placl during an 11-day period whei both Shelliway and Mac: Transport ceased trading tern porarily.
