• Seven major motor manufacturers have joined forces to form the world's first action group to cope with the problems of the road vehicle and the environment. A Committee of Common Market Constructors (CCMC) has been set up, its main objectives being to make the maximum contribution., to improving vehicle safety, with a reduction of environmental problems, and to ensure that governmental regulations in these fields are so far as possible the same throughout the Market.
Chairman of CCMC is Giovanni Agnelli, of Fiat; members are Lord Stokes (British Leyland), Pierre Dreyfus (Renault), Rolf Leiding (VW), Joachim Zahn (DaimlerBenz), Francois Rollier (Citroen), and Francois Gautier (Peugeot). This board will be advised by a committee of technical experts consisting of the heads of the research departments of the founsling member companies, assisted by a permanent secretary.
