• A plea for an "identifiable statutory body" to be responsible for school transport is made by the London Transport Passengers Committee in its submission to the Government working party on school transport.
The Committee also suggests that schools should where possible be built near railway stations and that school hours should be staggered.
The working party is also advised to carry out a survey into the travel modes of school children.
