• Overloading offenders are not being adequately discouraged, the Minister for Transport Industries has told the Licensing Authorities. Realizing that staff shortages are a particular problem, the Minister says — in a letter to all LAs — that he is authorizing more enforcement staff.
Revealing that he had recently discussed with LAs the working of operators' licens ing and particularly enforcement Mr Peyton says in his letter that he does not wish to influence Authorities' judgment in particular cases but is concerned that rules closely related to safety should be rigorously enforced — and especially in cases of lorry overloading.
