A REDUCTION in• the frequency of riDundee's transport services, with consequent staff redundancy, may have to be considered if the corporation's application for revised fares he unsuccessful.

This statement was made last Friday by Coun. G. W. Davidson, transport convener, when the Scottish Licensing Authority heard the corporat.on's application to shorten stages at existing fares.

Frequency reduction was resorted to some months ago by the South Wales Transport Co., Ltd., in an effort to avoid higher fares. This expedient appears to have been unsuccessful and the company, in conjunction with United Welsh Services, Ltd., and Swan Motor Co. (Swansea), Ltd., has now applied for higher fares, particularly in Swansea itself.

Increased fares in the Poole area are sought by Hants and Dorset Motor Services, Ltd., which recently gave notice to end its agreement with Bournemouth Corporation in June next year. , The agreement refers to the facility granted the company by the municipality to pick up and set down passengers in the corporation area.

Birkenhead and Wallasey Corpora tions have now received permission to raise general and workmen's minimum fares. Decision on the application to raise single fares by Id. and return fares by Id. has been deferred.

Leeds Corporation is believed to ba considering an application to increase the tram fare from 2id. to 3d. Northern General Transport, Ltd., is considering a possible application, and the Sunderland District Omnibus Co., Ltd., seeks amendments on routes in Durham.

The applications for increased fares on the joint services operated by Leigh Corporation and Lancashire United Transport, Ltd., have now been granted, together with the applications from Wigan, St. Helens, Salford and Balton Corporations and Ribble Motor Services, Ltd.

On its London-Southend serviee and the feeder routes, City Coach Co.. Ltd., seeks increased fares. Aldershot and District Traction Co., Ltd., Westeliffon-Sea Motor Services, Ltd.. Thaines Valley Traction Co.. Ltd., Hicks Bros.. Ltd., and Eastern Counties Omnibus Co., I.td., have all been granted the higher fares applied for, as haee a number of smaller operators in the Metropolitan Area.
