THE interruption in production caused by the holiday period had an influence on output figures for September, as it did for August, and exports for the month were somewhat lower than for previous months. Total production of commercial vehicles during September, says the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders, was 24,484, of which 15,506 were earmarked for overseas and 8,978 were for the home market. Average weekly production was 4,897, as against 5,106 for August.

Goods vehicles, road haulage tractors and special-type vehicles numbered 23,514 and were made up as follows:Under 15 cwt., 11,158; 15 cwt. to 6 tons, 11,892; over 6 tons, '464. Passenger vehi.les, which totalled 840, comprised 443 single-deck and 368 double-deck motorbuses, and 29 trolleybuses. Battery-electric-vehicle output was 130. For the first nine months.of the year the number of vehicles produced was 196,021, of which 124,449 were for export and 71.572 were for the home market. The total was made up of 186,056 goods vehicles, road haulage tractors and special-type vehicles (90,870 under 15 cwt.; 90,362, 15 cwt. and up to 6 tons; 4,824 over 6 tons); 8,828 passenger vehicles (5,278 single-deck and 3,352 double-deck motorbuses, and 218 trolleybuses); 1,137 battery-electrics. The total of electric prams was 499. and works trucks 4,828.

Exports of vehicles, industrial trucks, trailers, etc., during September, totalled 10,557 units (£4,494,141), compared with 14,028 units (5,789,340) in August. From January to September, exports totalled 114,729 units, valued at £47,670,857. Used commercial vehicles sent overseas numbered 2,361, valued at £1,803,632_ Agricultural tractors exported numbered 60,887 (£21,487,239), and parts and accessories to the value of £37,282,062 helped to swell overseas trade.
