• Trent-owned Barton Buses has re-organised its services, disposing of 10 vehicles and closing a depot at Highcross Street, Leicester.
The company was taken over less than 12 months ago in a 22m deal. It has already shed 45 of its 180 vehicles and over 100 jobs have gone, but this restructuring has broadly maintained the company's existing service network.
The disposals include part of its fleet of 31 Daf MB200 and MB230 mid-engjned dualpurpose vehicles, and Barton expects to reduce its fleet of Daf-chassised vehicles to six. These are being retained for its recently revived Barton Road Cruises tour operation.
It currently runs around 155 PSVs; mainly Leyland Leopards. Its five Leyland Tigers have been disposed of. Trent maintains a small stake in Leicester City Bus and now keeps five Barton buses at the City garage for school contracts. Barton garages were not included in the takeover, and alternative arrangements have already been made at Ilkeston and Nottingham.
Barton still operates a separate unit, but shares the facilities of Trent garages.
